David Wick is a native of Clear Lake, Iowa, and holds degrees from The University of Iowa and Indiana University.
He performed with the Cedar Rapids (Iowa) Symphony Orchestra for eleven seasons before joining the Virginia Symphony and the Virginia Opera Association as Principal Horn in 1981. He retired from full time playing in 2013. Other organizations he has performed with include the Eastern Music Festival, Skaneateles Festival, and the Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival, where he has been Principal Horn since 2004.
Past college affiliations have included Coe and Cornell in Iowa, and Old Dominion University and Christopher Newport University in Virginia. He is presently Adjunct Lecturer in Applied Music at the College of William and Mary, a position held since 1985.
David and his wife, Mary, live in Virginia Beach and are the parents of a daughter, Sarah. She has a degree in voice from Bridgewater College, is a certified Music Therapist, and works as a bartender in Omaha, Nebraska.
When not performing or practicing the horn, he enjoys bicycling, painting, reading, and tinkering with his 1970 Triumph TR6.
