Andrew Messersmith recently graduated from Fort Dorchester High School in North Charleston, South Carolina. He began violin at 6 years old and has studied with numerous teachers over the years including festival musician Amy Glick.
Messersmith was the concertmaster of the Charleston Symphony Youth Orchestra from 2016 to 2019, performing several concertmaster solos including Scheherazade and Nocturne from Carmen Suite No. 2. The CSYO also recently performed alongside Black Violin. Messersmith participated in the South Carolina All-State Orchestra, earning first chair in 2017 and 2018. Messersmith was the recipient of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra League summer studies scholarship for 5 years in a row, as well as the Summerville Music Club scholarship.
Messersmith will attend the University of Oklahoma to major in meteorology and business starting in the fall of 2019 and plans to continue his musical aspirations while in Oklahoma.
